Sgarbi towards indictment for the painting bought at auction (without paying taxes)

The Rome prosecutor's office has requested the indictment of former Culture Undersecretary Vittorio Sgarbi. The accusation is that of fraudulent evasion of payment of taxes: the art critic (and former undersecretary of Culture) allegedly owes debts to the Revenue Agency for a total of 715 thousand euros. The trial revolves around a story dating back to 2020, when, according to what was pieced together by prosecutors, Sgarbi bought a painting at auction: “The Garden of the Fairies,” a 1913 work created by Vittorio Zecchin.
Transaction concluded by making the partner appear as the buyer and with the money of a third party. A complex maneuver which would have been implemented with the aim of protecting the work from possible attacks from the tax authorities. When the story broke, Sgarbi declared himself innocent of all charges.
