Sardinia, the counting of the regional elections: the results. Todde in front of Truzzu. Cagliari data weighs heavily

In Sardinia, counting operations for the regional elections, which began this morning at 7 a.m., are progressing slowly. The collection of regional data at 1:20 p.m. – with 91 sections scrutinized – shows that the outgoing mayor of Cagliari, Paolo Truzzu, is ahead of Alessandra Todde: 45% against 45.9%. Members of sections 1844 will have 12 hours, until 7 p.m., to carry out all the activities with the results. If there are sections that have not completed their work, the packages containing all the cards and registers will be closed in sealed envelopes and will be transferred to the courts of the territorial districts which will complete the operations and verify all the results. The final participation rate amounted to 52.4%, down compared to the previous electoral round. Yesterday, the first to vote was Lucia Chessa, from the Sardigna R-esiste list, in her constituency of Austis, in the municipality of Nuoro. Then it was the turn of center-right candidate Paolo Truzzu in Cagliari. As well as Renato Soru, candidate of the Sardinian Coalition. Finally Alessandra Todde, who voted in Nuoro.

Cagliari's results in particular are being watched with great attention, given that the city represents a third of the active regional electorate and will be decisive for the outcome of the vote. Furthermore, Paolo Truzzu – the center-right candidate, chosen in particular by his party, the Brothers of Italy – is the outgoing mayor of Cagliari, was born here and has his main electoral base here. Early in the morning the first four seats went to Todde and until mid-morning the figure remained constant.

General results

On the Region's website, and with a certain delay compared to the live broadcasts from the different municipalities, the official data at 1:20 p.m. give very partial data, given that there are 91 sections out of 1844: Alessandra Todde at 45 .9% (11,905), Paolo Truzzu comes in second position with 45% (11,669 votes), Renato Soru (Sardinian Coalition) with 8.2% (2,140 votes) and Lucia Chessa (Sardigna R-esiste) with 0.9% (239 votes).

Center-right pessimism

According to the website of New Sardinia among the most pessimistic is Paolo Truzzu. “Unfortunately, it happened,” he reportedly said in the corridors of the electoral committee.

Times

The progress of the count will be decisive in knowing the name of the winner. In the previous round, it took a month for the 60 regional councilors and the governor to be declared, because many polling stations were unable to examine the ballots within the time required by law. The ballot boxes were sealed again and invaded the electoral offices of the respective districts for the counting of the ballots and the transmission of the minutes to the Court of Appeal of Cagliari.
