Miyazaki after the Oscar for “The Boy and the Heron”: “I’m Japanese, I can’t show my happiness”

On Oscar night, the award for best animated film went to Studio Ghibli and director Hayao Miyazaki for The Boy and the Heron. In an interview with Japanese public broadcaster NHK, Toshio Suzuki, producer of the work, said he was “happy from the bottom of his heart”, although he thinks “it was just luck” . Suzuki said he asked the Academy for three statuettes to distribute to the team. Miyazaki attended the awards ceremony in his office and told him, “Because I'm Japanese, I can't show happiness on my face.”
