And they had even built a parallel market to that of the company that employed them. That is, the Leroy Merlin in the Parco da Vinci shopping center in Fiumicino. Today, twenty employees and security guards are under investigation. Two people under arrest: Gluharov Dimitar Lukov, a 27-year-old Bulgarian, and Simone Carmosino, 28, were supposed to guarantee maximum security inside the store. Instead, the two men, both employees of the security services company Hsh, were the main protagonists of this huge scam.
The Leroy Merlin scam
The Roman edition of Republic reports that the thefts, numbering about a hundred in total, were committed between January 2022 and August 2023. The investigation coordinated by the Civitavecchia prosecutor's office began in March last year. Because the water heaters, jackhammers, boilers and air conditioners were available in the warehouse database. But in reality they were nowhere to be found in the store. The investigation used wiretaps: “If you need it, I'll buy it from you at a discount,” the suspects said on the phone with small craftsmen and other people working in the trade. In 2022 alone, the deficits reached a value of 800 thousand euros. In 2023, this figure halved precisely thanks to the intervention of the police and the increase in checks. For the time being, customers are not accused of imprudent purchases or receiving stolen goods.
