In October 2022, a student was raped inside the Paolo Borsellino university residence in Turin. Two weeks later, a minor was arrested for the incident. The perpetrator, who has since been sentenced to 5 years, 6 months and 20 days in prison, was assaulted by four other inmates of Ferrante Aporti on 25 June. The four alleged perpetrators of the beatings were investigated by the Turin prosecutor's office for injuries with the aggravating circumstance of sexual discrimination. Now his lawyers Gianluca Bona and Giuseppe Vitello are asking for him to be placed under house arrest.
The prison
The episodes of violence are the culmination of a difficult imprisonment. The prisoner has demonstrated an inability to adapt to the environment and to face a process of recovery. The crime he is accused of is frowned upon in penitentiaries, according to a code of honor that was never written. In recent months, the group of prisoners aged 18 to 25 began to harass him. To the point of beating him: four people entered his cell and attacked him. Only the intervention of another Senegalese prisoner saved him. The institute opened disciplinary proceedings against the attackers. Two prisoners were immediately transferred. The last episode occurred between August 1 and 2: the boy locked himself in the bathroom to escape during a prison riot. Among the promoters was one of his tormentors. The decision on house arrest is expected in the coming days.
