He makes the gun gesture against Giorgia Meloni, the student case in the Senate. La Russa: “The punishment is not excessive” – Video

The gesture of the student from the Righi Institute in Rome did not go unnoticed. Not to the cameras, not to the teachers, not to the classroom. The boy mimed holding a gun, index finger outstretched and thumb raised, aiming at Giorgia Meloni during the Senate session during which the Prime Minister's communications for the European Council were underway. A teacher immediately intervened with the student and lowered his arm. This gesture was seen by some parliamentarians who reported it to Ignazio La Russa. And it was the President of the Senate himself who condemned the boy's gesture in the hemicycle: “I have the obligation to point out a gesture that is not really elegant, I want to be light, which happened while I was greeting the students of a school in Rome: from one student there were two fingers and a thumb raised towards the Prime Minister which were immediately repressed by one of the teachers that I would like to point out here to condemn him in the most decisive way, even if he is a little boy. Even the Prime Minister, speaking before the explanations of vote, mentioned the episode: “Thank you for your solidarity: I have nothing to add to what happened, it strikes me that such a gesture is produce in a Chamber like this on the day of the anniversary of the death of Marco Biagi, a servant of the institutions, of the State who paid with his life for his availability towards the institutions”.

The director: “Now the class council will evaluate what needs to be done”

The matter did not end there since the director of the school, Cinzia Giacomobono, declared to ANSA that disciplinary measures would be taken against the student: “These are things that he should not be done – said the principal – In our high school, we know that there are some. are far-left students, critical of the government, and far-right students. Not everything children can do is predictable, we teach children the values of democracy and respect every day. The class council will evaluate the measures to be taken, based on the institute's regulations and the seriousness of what has been done. We're sorry, we apologize, no one expected that.”

The director's letter

“I learned from the professors of the very serious episode that occurred today during the visit to the Senate of a class from the institute that I direct,” opens the letter read to the House by President La Russa by the director of the school Cinzia Giacomobono, as teaching staff we are struck and saddened by this episode which contrasts with our daily commitment to transmit to children the values of dialogue, democratic debate and tolerance towards all opinions. The boy's behavior will be punished with the severity it deserves, including the family who, like us, are grieving. And here the senator intervenes for the first time, on the severity of the sentence: “I hope not too much”, he comments during the reading. And then he continues: “I apologize with the teachers, the chaperones and the children for what happened which will constitute the opportunity for further discussion in class council and reflection with the children”. La Russa then adds, after thanking her: “I will break a spear so that there is no excessive punishment, what we have seen here is already enough.”
