Now two brothers from God have come and are freeing my mother and my brother who have very bad demons in them. » This is the text of a Whatsapp message from Kevin Barreca to a classmate contained in the preventive custody order regarding the Altavilla Milicia massacre. In which Giovanni Barreca killed his wife and two of his children (including Kevin) with the complicity, according to the prosecution, of Massimo Carandente and Sabrina Fina. Kevin and Emmanuel, 5 years old, were also tortured. As well as Antonella Salamone, while the couple's eldest daughter, 17, is accused of complicity in the murders. And he confessed to the juvenile court investigators.
Possessed by the devil
Kevin was killed because “he too was possessed by the devil”, according to his sister's account. While the classmate who received the message on Whatsapp went to the police as news of the massacre was everywhere. And he said: “Kevin had also told three other school friends about this situation, they told me. They knew his mother and brother were possessed. And on the other hand Kevin and his sister hadn't come to school since February 5.”
Kevin also wrote something else to his friends: “My family is destroying itself because of my indifference, I always run away from home to be with you and have fun because I don't feel peace in this house.” And again: “Imagine my five-year-old brother saying that the demon in him came into this family to destroy us and kill us one by one.”
Spiritual warfare
Kevin wrote to his friends that there was a “spiritual war” in his house. In another message, he said he spoke “not in the flesh but in the spirit.” In the chat he also says that “his brother (probably Massimo Carandente, ed) talks to the demon that controls my mother and says things that my mother didn't even know. » And again “if you wanted (Yes) living this thing with me here would scare you too.” According to the custody order after the last messages to her friend, dated February 5, Sabrina Fina had declared that the 16-year-old was “particularly aggressive at so much so that it was necessary to tie his hands and feet”. The woman had also received “a bite on the ankle” from the boy. Who had also thrown a painting at her husband Carandente, hitting him in the neck.
Kevin tied up
Fina told investigators she left the Barreca house while Kevin was still tied up. His father had blocked it with a chain full of rust, cables and wires. According to preliminary investigation judge Valeria Gioeli, the suspects acted in the grip of a form of mystical delirium, believing they were acting “in execution of the will of God”. In the end, Kevin is tied to the bed, tied with chains, with rags in his mouth so he doesn't scream. The police will find him dead. The young girl, after asking to see her father, began to speak. His statements, in which he admits to having actively participated in the massacre, are all confirmed by experts from the Palermo Polyclinic Forensic Institute.
The girl's confession
“We were in the kitchen, my mother was on the floor, face down, and Sabrina, Massimo, Kevin and my father were also there. They took turns torturing her, Sabrina and Massimo. They gave her the hairdryer on the highest temperature, they hit her on the back with the pan,” said the 17-year-old. And again: “My father was watching, Kevin and I were standing and exchanged glances, understanding that this was not normal. My mother told me to call the police, but for fear of being tortured, I didn't do that either,” the story continues.
The young girl clarified that her mother died on February 9, after being tortured for a day: “Sabrina and Massimo told me that she had a heart attack while she was lying on the floor in the kitchen” . And he added that “they wanted to cremate her”, so they first burned the body and then buried it in a hole “dug by my father and Kevin”. Then it was the turn of little Manuel, tortured with a hairdryer, and finally his older brother.
