The League and the Sardinian Action Party

The day after the defeat, the Prime Minister publicly threw water on the fire. Privately, as the newspapers tell us, his fury no longer targets the Northern League but the Sardinian Action Party. Who, to take revenge for the rejection of Solinas and the imposition of the candidate by Rome, would have made the disdain of preferring that the adversary give a signal. The Captain's fight, however, is a fight for survival: after the hangover of the last legislature which culminated with the European triumph (an end in itself, however, given that he remained outside the EU government), the leader of the League will have to face the next failure of the polls in Strasbourg. Because a single General Vannacci will certainly not be enough to stem the bleeding.

And because in the meantime, the tide against him is rising more and more in the League. On behalf of the North and Luca Zaia, as the criticism of the Venetian Councilor for Productive Activities Roberto Marcato shows: “I don't understand what this has to do with our history and our struggles for autonomy.” This is why Sardinia's alarm bells ring loud and clear in other electoral regions: in Abruzzo, where Governor Marsilio of the FdI is supported by favorable polls. But also in Basilicata and Umbria, where the game is more balanced and where the loss of the governor would have an even greater appeal at the national level, given that these are regions that the center-right has wrested from the center- left and who will return home.

The counting of votes

For the FdI, the vote count is ruthless. The Democratic Party's overrun is exacerbated by the number of votes lost compared to the 2022 elections: 70 thousand. While Todde managed to obtain the votes of 40,000 more voters than the parties in his coalition. “But the center-left has generally lost votes,” he explains today to Corriere della Sera Carlo Buttaroni from Tecné. “Compared to politicians, the M5 and the Pd decreased by 4 thousand, while the center-right gained 50 thousand,” he explains. But they all registered on the civic lists who were part of the nine who supported the mayor of Cagliari. The M5 certainly won with its candidate, but lost two thirds of the votes compared to two years ago. If Athens cries, Sparta has nothing to laugh about.
