Turin and its province continue to be harassed by bad weather: after the violent windstorm that hit several districts of the city yesterday, August 13, a series of storms have hit the Piedmont region in the last few hours. In Fenestrelle, on the road leading to Colle di Sestriere, a landslide occurred: the road workers of the Metropolitan City of Perosa Argentina and Pinerolo intervened to regulate traffic, the work being made even more complicated by the persistent rain.


The damage

The bad weather in Turin mainly affected the south-western part of the city, with gusts of wind and hail. Dozens of trees were downed and several vehicles were damaged, as reported in particular in the Lingotto district. Numerous firefighters intervened due to damage to roofs, as happened at the Salvemini school, uncovered by the strong wind. Furthermore, about ten GTT lines remain blocked or limited. The violent storms also affected the areas of Vinovo, Villastellone, Carmagnola, Orbassano and Moncalieri.

The surge

The phenomenon that occurred is called “downburst” by experts: the term indicates the presence of strong gusts of wind (up to 100 km/h) descending with a horizontal movement. Abundant hail in Val Chisone, the Chisone, Pellice and Sangone valleys, in the province of Turin. There have already been about a hundred interventions by the Fire Brigade.
