Smart Tag, Bluetooth apps for the distracted that help find lost objects

Smart tags are devices that can be associated with any type of object that can be easily tracked. They usually locate the precise geographical position through an application installed on the mobile phone. And they are ideal for the absent-minded: those who lose their keys, glasses or wallet at home and only realize it when they have to go out and are in a hurry. There are three types depending on the location system. That is, trackers with a Bluetooth or NFT connection, those that connect to the mobile network and finally trackers that contain a SIM card, ideal for suitcases.

Smart tags with Bluetooth

The simplest smart tags work with Bluetooth. They are usually used to track keys and other small objects nearby. Among these, explains Il Messaggero, there is Chipolo One (25 euros) which allows you to find objects within a radius of 100 meters. If you do not find it, you can report the loss to the community: anyone passing nearby will receive a notification of the lost object and can send it to the owner. Apple AirTags, starting at 39 euros, are the most popular trackers. They use the Bluetooth network but also connect to the Apple network and can therefore also report losses to other nearby devices, respecting the owner's privacy. The AirTag can also be placed in a suitcase. Use the Find My app on iPhone and iPad.

Apple, Samsung and Motorola

The Galaxy SmartTag 2 (31.90 euros on the Samsung website) has a battery that guarantees up to 500 days of autonomy and an IP67 certification against dust and rain. Associated with the SmartThings Find application, it uses Bluetooth for localization over short distances (120 meters), and the proprietary network based on communication between Samsung devices to extend its range. Moto Tag Motorola on the other hand costs 40 euros, uses UWB technology and the Android crowdsourcing network thanks to Google's “Find my device”.

Subscriptions

Finally, the Salind 20 GPS (100 euros) has a 20,000 mAh battery for 180 days of autonomy. And it also has an included 4G SIM card that ensures precise tracking in more than 100 countries, with the support of a dedicated portal. Like all devices with a GPS system, it requires a subscription with monthly, annual or biennial options.
