Police officer stabbed in Paris, attack 8 days before Olympics: attacker seriously injured

In Paris, a police officer was injured by a man armed with a knife who was then “immediately neutralized” by another police officer, who opened fire on him. The events took place on rue Vernet, today Thursday July 18 around 7:30 p.m., in the eighth arrondissement of Paris, a very touristy district of the French capital, which will host the Olympic Games in eight days. The attacker was rushed to the Pompidou hospital. According to initial information cited by French national television TF1 and by French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, the police had been called by employees of a store because of the presence of an undesirable person inside. When the police arrived, the man, a foreigner with a regular residence permit until 2025, fled with a knife in his hand. As he turned around, he slightly injured the police officer in the ear and then fled, arrested by the police. The police officer was taken to the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital. The area of ​​the attack, not far from the Champs Elysées, remains under garrison.
