Marcell Jacobs after the 100 meters final at the 2024 Olympics: “Disappointed but I gave it my all, now I'm thinking about the relay”

To defend his Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, Marcell Jacobs had to run the fastest 100m final in history at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. For the first time, all the athletes ran under 10″, faster than the seasonal best time recorded by the Italian sprinter this season. And he had to surpass himself, finishing with an excellent 9''85 which also kept him off the podium, in fifth place. “I wanted to demonstrate once again that, despite all the difficulties that one can encounter in life, it is important to know how to fall and get up again every time,” he now writes on social networks, “that's what I have always done. In last night's final, I got off to a great start and tried to attack until the end. The others ran very fast and I gave it my all.” Then he returns to the difficulties encountered during the preparation: “Last year was complex. I had to change everything: country, coach, training partners and much more. However, I always believed in this project. Reaching 9″85 is an important result.” However, the goal was different: “I am a little disappointed because I felt there was a possibility of winning a medal”, but the Games are not over. “In the coming days I will focus on the 4×100 relay, where I will give all my energy”, promises Jacobs, “thank you all for your support, Marcell Jacobs' career does not end here. There are still many goals to achieve in the next four years.”
