Liliana Segre sues Elena Basile over accusations about Palestinian children and 'Nazi' double standards: compensation will go to charity

Senator for life Liliana Segre has filed a complaint against Elena Basile, the former Italian ambassador who, at the beginning of February, made very serious accusations to her linked to her alleged silence on Palestinian children victims of the war in Gaza. “You, dear lady, say that you cannot sleep, tormented by the fear that the testimony of Auschwitz is worthless. But Palestinian children don't touch it? You, a Holocaust survivor, don't even say a word for them?” Basile argued in a video posted on his social networks. Then accusing the concentration camp survivor of even using double standards like the Nazis did it: “They too were very good to their children, they too had morals for the Germans, the Aryans and the Whites and they felt nothing for the deaths of the Jews. Do you want to imitate them? Then, 24 hours later, in an equally daring overview, the former ambassador sent a letter of sincere apology, through the columns of daily event, admitting that he had neither read nor listened to Liliana Segre's statements, but had relied on hearsay. “It was a terrible misunderstanding, I hope you can forget the offense,” Basile wrote. The lifelong senator never responded, but her family made it clear they would take legal action to protect her honor. Today, as announced, lawyer Vincenzo Saponara filed Liliana Segre's complaint against Basile. In addition to the criminal procedure, Segre will also initiate civil action to remove the defamatory messages against him and obtain compensation for the resulting damage: compensation, Ansa learns, which will go to charity.
