End of Siae's monopoly: it's the battle of Fedez, who then changed his mind

This should mean the end of Siae's monopoly, as the European Union and beyond have been demanding for some time. The Italian Society of Authors and Publishers had also been dragged into a bitter struggle by Fedez, at least until a few months ago, when the organization reached an agreement with the singer. The government has approved a decree that will facilitate the closure of 16 infringement files – including the one concerning beach concessions – and one EU Pilot file. In at least 6 cases, the rules put in place are likely to lead to immediate archiving, in compliance with the technical deadlines of the European Commission. In another 11 cases, the rules adopted by the government are an essential condition for achieving rapid archiving. Among the procedures we aim to resolve, there is also 2017/4092 concerning copyright. Italy has been criticized on several occasions because, according to the EU, our legislation excludes independent management organizations from other Member States from providing copyright management services in Italy. The new legislation should now expand the pool of companies able to operate in this field, thus ending Siae's monopoly. In 2016, the rapper decided to entrust the management of his repertoire to the new group Soundreef, accusing the historic Siae of acting in a monopolistic regime, “a monopolistic domination spanning more than a century”. A battle that ended at the end of last November when Fedez announced a partnership with the organization.
