Delays and cancellations are causing chaos at airports across Europe. Between bad weather and staff shortages

In the skies of Europe, and especially on the ground, in the airports, there is chaos. Flights, delays and disruptions have been cancelled since the end of June. The causes are a mixture of bad weather that has grounded planes, but also a shortage of staff in the airlines.

June 28-30: Half of flights canceled

Between June 28 and 30, FlightAware recorded about half of the flights canceled. Last Friday alone, the worst day of the weekend and the one with the highest number of movements, European carriers canceled about 600 flights and another 8,000 suffered significant delays.

According to Eurocontrol, during the week of June 24-30, aircraft accumulated 1.9 million minutes of delay, 153% more than the same period a year ago and +125% compared to 2019, with trips exceeding those of 2024.
