Claudio Lotito's choice to have his 5 mobile phones intercepted, the threats and insults on the phone: “It's an organized group”

Lazio president and Forza Italia senator Claudio Lotito has had enough: Serie A has not yet resumed and he says he is already inundated with insults, threats and anonymous calls. In fact, on June 14, 5,000 fans marched in Rome, from Flaminio to the Ponte Milvio, shouting “Lotito free Lazio”. Not to mention the posters that are plastered all over the city: “Lord, take him away”, “Prosecco and caviar at your funeral”. For this reason, Lotito believes that the offer he has been living with since he became the owner of the Blue and Whites 20 years ago is no longer sufficient. He has therefore asked Palazzo Madama for permission to have his telephone records acquired by the prosecutor's office and Digos.

An “organized structure”

The vice-president of the Senate's parliamentary immunities committee, Manfredi Potenti, according to the Corriere della Sera commented: “They don't seem to be non-conformists and we can't talk about a group of prankster fans at the bar who like to break each other's balls day and night, but rather the impression that there is a well-organized structure behind this…” According to Potenti, a member of the Northern League, the session that had as its object theaffair Lotito was “dramatic.”

The green light

After 25 minutes of hearing, he rewrote the MailThe Council has given the green light to the Rome prosecutor's office and Digos for the acquisition of the telephone records, “incoming only”, of the 5 mobile phones used by Lotito, as the “offended person”, in two separate criminal proceedings already pending at the Court of Piazzale Clodio. Potenti continues: “Lotito brought to the hearing a list, not only of calls from an unknown person, but also of clear numbers. And he reported the damage suffered at his home in Rome. In short, a climate of pressure and threats that was really heavy.”

Lotito's decision

“But he – added Potenti – showed himself to be brave. He told us that despite everything he would not sell Lazio and he even joked about it saying that he keeps his mobile phones on 24 hours a day because of his many commitments, but that because of these constant threatening phone calls he can't even call his wife anymore” (Cristina Mezzaroma, ed). After the Council's yes, the Chamber will decide what to do on September 11. If Lotito's request receives another “yes”, investigators should easily find the authors of the calls. And therefore also establish whether this is really an orchestrated maneuver to push Lotito out of the game. It is not clear whether, in addition to acquiring the files, the prosecution will also decide to intercept Lotito.
