Alfredo Cospito finally sentenced to 23 years: the Court of Cassation rejects the appeals

The Supreme Court of Cassation has made final the conviction of the anarchist Alfredo Cospito, detained under the 41 bis regime, known as hard prison, at Bancali prison in Sassari. The 56-year-old man was sentenced to 23 years in prison, along with Anna Beniamino, who was sentenced to 17 years and 9 months in prison, in the trial for the attack on the former student barracks of the police in Fossano, in the province of Cuneo, in 2006 The judges of the Supreme Court rejected the appeals of the Prosecutor General of Turin and the defense, as requested by the Prosecutor General of Cassation. It was in fact a question of confirming the sentences imposed in June last year by the Assize Court of Appeal of Turin, which, in the second trial, had reduced the anarchist's sentence. The judges in Turin defined the Fossano massacre as “a political massacre”, “a serious terrorist act” which however had very modest repercussions. “The action,” they explained, “involved a very limited risk of harm to the personality of the State and the democratic order.” For this reason, the Supreme Court judge defined the decisions made in the contested sentence as “correct” before the judges.
