Travaglio acquitted before the Supreme Court, he did not defame Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala

The fifth section of the Court of Cassation acquitted the director of Il Fatto Quotidiano, Marco Travaglio, immediately annulling the first and second degree conviction for defamation against the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala. The act does not constitute a crime. It all started with a few sentences spoken by the journalist during the show Half past eight, in June 2018, after the publication of an article in the newspaper about a loan of 50,000 euros for the 2016 electoral campaign by the builder Luca Parnasi, who was then involved in an investigation into the Rome stadium which also concerned the 5 Star Movement. Travaglio spoke of a meeting between the mayor of Milan and the builder, in March 2018, during which Sala “in full conflict of interests thanked him, saying that he was very grateful to him”, saying asking why they were asking for the resignation of the then one. the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, “who did not take money, instead of asking for a mayor who took it.”

Sala will have to pay 20 thousand euros to Travaglio

In his speech, the director of Il Fatto spoke of legitimate financing, even if it is inappropriate and opaque. Sala felt offended by “an accusation that is not too veiled and not supported by facts.” He admitted to having met Parnasi for a mission from Milan for a hypothesis of a new stadium. But later any possibility of carrying out the works at Farini Airport was closed. From now on, while awaiting the reasons for the conviction, the mayor of Milan will have to return the approximately 20 thousand euros paid by the director of Il Fatto Quotidiano as compensation, with interest.
