“The pain is nothing compared to what I feel inside”

There is no peace for Italian Olympic high jump champion Gianmarco Tamberi.

About 10 hours after announcing on social media that he had suffered a second renal colic which seriously compromised his participation in the competition scheduled for this evening, the Italian Olympic high jump champion has been struck by new health problems.

“Even what was my last certainty is about to disappear… I was just taken to the emergency room by ambulance after vomiting blood twice” he wrote on his Instagram profile.

“10 hours have passed and the renal colic has still not gone away… the pain I have been feeling since this morning, as strong as it is, is nothing compared to what I feel inside,” adds the Italian, who posts a photo of himself in the ambulance with the drip, while his wife Chiara Bontempi shakes his hand.

“Now they will do more tests on me to understand what is happening. I will keep you updated because the many messages I receive and the love you show me deserve at least a response. I have dreamed of everything for a long time this day except living a nightmare like this,” writes 'Gimbo' in the second part of the post on Instagram.

The flag bearer of Team Italia is expected to take part in the high jump final of the Paris Olympics this evening.

After last night's colic, he had announced: “I will be on the platform”, but the strength and tenacity of the champion may not be able to overcome this last obstacle.
