Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if American troops arrived in Ukraine, Russia would treat them as interventionists. This statement was made in an interview with the official Ria news agency and Rossiya-1 television. Putin also said that if the United States carried out nuclear tests, Moscow could do the same. And he added that Russia is ready for a nuclear war from a technical-military point of view, but that for the moment “everything is not falling apart.” According to the president, Russian nuclear technology “is more modern than any other.” But Putin also said he did not need the atom in Ukraine. But he is ready to use it in the event of an existential threat to Russia.
Realism and Ukraine
The tsar declared his readiness to enter into peace talks with Ukraine, provided that they were based on realism. And that he does not trust any Western leader and that Russia needs countersigned guarantees. Putin also asserted that Russia would not interfere in Western countries' elections and would work honestly with any elected leader, referring to elections in the United States. And he added that Donald Trump called him back when he showed sympathy for Joe Biden. Finally, he argued that North Korea now has its own nuclear umbrella and did not ask anything of Russia to obtain it.
