Paolini stops in the round of 16, waiting for Sinner

At the US Open in New York, it's the day of Jannik the Fisherman.

The Blues will face the number 14 seed Tommy Paulan opponent he has already beaten twice in his career and who got the better of Canadian Gabriel Diallo in his third round match. The match between Sinner and Paul is scheduled for tonight (between September 2nd and 3rd) at the earliest at 2:30 am Italian time.

The match will be played on Arthur Ashe Field (second scheduled match after the women's match between Swiatek and Samsonova). At the top of the scoreboard today are Medvedev (5)-Borges, Draper (25)-Machac, De Minaur (10)-Thompson.

However, the quarter-finals of the lower part of the draw are already defined: Alexander Zverev (4) will face Taylor Fritz (12) and the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (9) will challenge the American Frances Tiafoe (20). Tiafoe is the first American to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open three times since 2008.

Nothing to do, however, for Jasmine Paolini. The Italian, world number 5, was stopped in the round of 16, beaten in two sets by the Czech Karolina Muchova, WTA number 52.

Tuscany had also started well, taking a 3-1 lead, but then the Czech picked up the pace and the Italian dropped her serve twice, her opponent closing the first set 6-3. Even in the second set, the number 5 had taken a 3-2 lead but Muchova recovered by scoring four consecutive games and thus closing the match in two 6-3, 6-3. In the quarter-finals, the Czech will meet the winner of the match between the Danish Caroline Wozniacki (WTA n.71) and the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (world n.21).
