This morning, explosions were recorded about 150 meters from the convoy of cars transporting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the Ukrainian city of Odessa. The meeting between the two leaders, who remained unhurt, took place as planned. Mitsotakis' trip to Ukraine was not announced by the Athens media. After this morning's meeting with Zelensky, for which the Greek Prime Minister reiterated his full support, Mitsotakis traveled to Bucharest, Romania, where the two-day conference of the European People's Party (EPP) began today .

The attack on Odessa

According to television Skai, the explosions recorded this morning not far from Zelensky and Mitsotakis were caused by the attack of a Russian drone. Immediately after this episode, the convoy deviated from the planned route, in accordance with the instructions of the Ukrainian authorities. As the two leaders met in Odessa, another attack was reported in the city, triggering sirens and activating air defense. “You see who we are dealing with. They don't care where to strike. I know there were victims. I don't know the details, but I know that there are dead and injured,” Zelensky said during the press conference with the Greek Prime Minister. “At the end of the visit – added Mitsotakis – we We heard the sound of air raid sirens and explosions very close to us. We did not have time to go to the shelters.”

The condemnation of Brussels

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also spoke of the Russian bombing this morning near Odessa. “No one is intimidated by this new attempt at terrorism, certainly not the two leaders on the ground nor the courageous Ukrainian people. More than ever, we stand with Ukraine.” The European Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, also follows the same line, condemning the Russian attack and – again addressing the Kremlin – writing on X: ” Shame ! “.
