Millwall and Montenegro goalkeeper Matija Sarkic dies aged 26

English and Montenegrin football in shock. THE Montenegro goalkeeper Matija Sarkic has died at the age of 26.. This was announced by Millwall, the English second division club for which he was registered, without revealing further details. Sárkic's last match for Montenegro took place on June 5, a 2–0 defeat against Belgium. This was his ninth appearance for the national team according to the Montenegrin Football Federation. Sarkic has made 33 appearances for London club Millwall this season since joining Premier League side Wolverhampton in August last year.

The Montenegrin FA later confirmed that Šarkic's death was due to a sudden illness this morning. The date and time of the funeral and memorial service will be announced at a later date. The Football Federation of Montenegro “expresses its sincere condolences to the Šarkic family.”
