The auction includes Kobe Bryant's locker from his Los Angeles Lakers career, a Diego Maradona jersey from the 1986 World Cup, Florence Griffith Jones' running shoes and a Rafael Nadal tennis racket.
Also up for grabs are the 2024 NBA Finals jerseys from the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics.
In total, Sotheby's estimates the collection will fetch at least $2.3 million.
The collection “was really about showcasing athletes at the peak of their careers,” Hawkes said. “We have pieces that have set world records, that have won championships, all of that. And we think that really encapsulates a broad spectrum of great sports pieces.”
