Before the show began this evening, La Scala workers, sector representatives and musicians took to the stage to demand a ceasefire in the Middle East. Behind them, the curtain opened, revealing a huge banner with the inscription “Ceasefire» which was greeted with warm applause from the audience. The gesture, unsurprisingly, took place before Madina, a ballet which tells the story of a young Chechen girl who chooses not to detonate the explosive belt she wears at her waist so as not to die and not kill .
