Jaouadi wins 800m freestyle, but gesture toward Paltrinieri sparks controversy

“I just wanted everyone to know that this gesture had nothing to do with Paltrinieri – he wrote in a story on Instagram – I could never have thought of doing it towards anyone it's my idol, I grew up watching his races and wishing to one day swim alongside him. It is a gesture that in my country has a different meaning, “wait for you”. Thank you for your understanding.”
