Gino Cecchettin da Fazio presents the book “Dear Giulia”: “I would have preferred to withdraw into myself, but she taught me to help others” – Videos

“When it was all over, the desire to close in on myself was great. But then I found strength thanks to Giulia. Every action I do, I try to think about what she would have done. I tried to put down on paper what I felt, my sensations. This may be the best way to grieve, you need to process your thoughts first. It also helps to leave something useful for others.” Gino Cecchettin returns to Che Tempo Che Fa to present his book Dear Giulia. What I learned from my daughter. A work in which he recreates the day he discovered that his daughter had not returned home, and which presents his project to create a Foundation to help associations against gender violence. “This book is part of a larger project. I thought I had to do something, Giulia didn't hesitate to help others, one of the things I learned was to be more useful”, continues Gino Cecchettin, “and I asked myself how I could do it”. From Giulia Cecchettin, the 22-year-old girl killed by her confessed ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, she learned selflessness. This is just one of the lessons learned during the reprocessing of grief.

The book “Dear Giulia”

“When I started writing, I tried to retrace what I had experienced the day before. I realized that we live in many moments without paying attention to them. I remember almost nothing from that Saturday, while I remember practically everything from the Sunday when I discovered that my daughter had not come home,” Giulia's father confesses to Fabio Fazio. In the first chapters, it traces the tranquility shattered by the awareness of November 11, 2023, then addresses gender violence as a social problem of our time. During the television interview, the host emphasizes that the name of Turetta is not never mentioned in the book. “It's not there because I wanted to focus only on Giulia,” explains Cecchettin, who then talks about his relationship with Turetta's family: “we spoke several times with the parents, the last Christmas. I renew all my support for them, because they are still going through a tragedy.”
