The sentences requested by the Rome prosecutor's office against the former President of the House and former leader of AN Gianfranco Fini are not light sentences. Nearly 14 years after the summer in which Italian politics was rocked by the “Monte Carlo villa scandal”, which dealt a heavy blow to the political career of Fini, the former President of the House returns to the House. The legal case revolves around the Monegasque residence bequeathed by Countess Annamaria Colleoni to the National Alliance, of which Fini was the leader, then sold in 2008 to the “brother-in-law” of the center-right representative, Giancarlo Tulliani, according to the accusation thanks to the money of the entrepreneur Francesco Corallo, accused of criminal association aimed at embezzlement, money laundering and tax evasion. The accusation of money laundering affected Fini himself, who, however, claimed to have been deceived by his partner Elisabetta Tulliani and her family. A version which does not convince the Rome prosecutor, Barbara Sargenti, who asked for 8 years for him, 9 years for his partner Elisabetta Tulliani, 10 years for Giancarlo Tulliani and 5 years for his father Sergio. Despite the seriousness of the charges, the state attorney general requested acquittal. And the former President of the House underlined this: “I note that the lawyers are also asking for acquittal. I continue to have confidence in justice and this is due to my total ignorance of what I am accused of.”

In the courtroom, Elisabetta Tulliani wanted to make spontaneous statements to defend her partner and assert that Fini knew nothing about everything. But without accusing himself: “After a long internal struggle – he began – I feel the moral obligation to offer a contribution to the truth. Until now, I have not participated in the trial so as not to disturb my daughters who are still teenagers given the media coverage. The trial has already shocked my family, but my silence would continue to harm those I care about. I feel the duty to confess my responsibilities to the jury: I hid from Gianfranco Fini, the father of my daughters, my brother's intentions to buy the house in Monte-Carlo. I was sure that the money for the purchase belonged to my brother. I never told Fini about the money I had received from my father, the origin of which I did not know. My brother's behavior is the biggest disappointment of my life. I never imagined that this would involve me in events that I learned about through the investigations and which shocked me.”

A version that does not correspond to that provided by Fini itself. Who accuses Elisabetta Tulliani of having participated in the deception also because she was a partner of her brother in the company which was to take over the house left to An: “That of the apartment in Monte-Carlo was for me the most painful affair – Fini had previously stated – I am deceived by Giancarlo Tulliani and his sister Elisabetta.
