Ursula von der Leyen announced this morning her intention to run again as head of the European Commission for another five years. The announcement, expected for some time, was made by the outgoing president of the European executive in Berlin, during the meeting of the leadership of the CDU, the German Christian Democratic party from which she comes. If the choice is ratified, von der Leyen will soon officially become the EPP candidate for (re)election as head of the European Commission. The heads of state and government of the 27 will designate the next president of the body next fall, based on the results of the vote (June 6-9) of the European Parliament, called to give its approval to the new Commission .
