Inclusion, solidarity, proximity: these are the key themes of the event organized by the State Police in collaboration with the Italian Spastic Assistance Association (AIAS) on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its foundation.
The initiative, a three-day event from September 6 to 8, takes place in Rome, between the Quirinal and the Piazza di Siena of the Villa Borghese and the Vatican.
Yesterday, the first day for members, during the three days of the event, guided tours of the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's Basilica and the Quirinal Gardens where a representative of AIAS had the opportunity to meet the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.
About 2,000 members belonging to 90 Italian sections, as well as students and citizens, were present at the Solidarity Village set up for the occasion by the State Police, among stands and historical and modern service vehicles, also attending an operational demonstration of the canine units of the Special Departments and athletes of the “Fiamme Oro” Sports Groups. The program also includes a musical area with a performance by the State Police Horse Band. Today's event was presented by Paola Perego, in the presence of the Chief of Police – Director General of Public Safety, Prefect Vittorio Pisani and the National President of Aias Salvatore Nicotra.
Antonietta Papa, university researcher, and Filippo Poggio, IBM programmer, took turns on stage to tell their stories and their relationship with disability, all with different experiences, but united by extraordinary perseverance and determination in the face of personal and professional adversity.
This was followed by the awards ceremony with the simultaneous presentation of the plaque marking the seventieth anniversary of the founding of AIAS.
