Gang violence against a 17-year-old athlete in Chianciano, the suspects “declare themselves innocent”. The Federation and the Municipality will form a civil party

The fencer's account of what happened on the night of August 4 to 5 in Chianciano Terme, in the Siena region, is very detailed. Rosa, not her real name, is a 17-year-old champion who, at a Federscherma retreat last summer, said she suffered gang sexual violence from three other athletes. According to what she told investigators, she woke up in the room of one of them, managed to return to her room and called for help, only managing to remember having drunk a beer and two shots the night before. During tests, traces of alcohol and drugs were found in his blood. Two people are being investigated for sexual violence by the Siena public prosecutor's office, while the Sports Federation has not yet made a decision. “We have done everything we can, we cannot replace the judicial authorities. We do not have the necessary powers to investigate serious crimes like these, under the red code”, explained the president of the FIS Paolo Azzi, “we have activated the public prosecutor's office and the federal justice, taking all the necessary measures, we have also prepared ourselves for a possible constitution of a civil party. But we need at least a precautionary measure, an indictment or closure of investigations.”

Defense of suspects

“The suspects declare themselves innocent, having never resorted to violence against anyone,” declares one of the defenders of the two young athletes, “we are awaiting the decisions of the Judicial Authority which, as emerges from the documents filed so far, although not having but having been able to read the entire file, he immediately carried out investigations to reconstruct the events in the immediate context of the facts.” Lawyer Enrico De Martino then added: “We therefore ask for attention and respect on an issue that is obviously delicate and painful for everyone, pending the definitive determination of the facts by the judiciary.” The mayor of Chianciano also joined the words of the president of Federscherma. ” The Municipality will become a civil party, where the competent authority will determine the conditions to bring those responsible to justice,” declared Mayor Andrea Marchetti, “what happened, if it is noted, is a denigrating fact which causes moral and physical harm to the victim and for the concrete interest of the Municipality in preserving our territory from such despicable crimes. We express our full support and solidarity with the victim and his family.”
