Bitter week for Elon Musk: the owner of Tesla, X and Neuralink has just been overtaken for the first time in more than two years by Jeff Bezos in the ranking of the richest men on the planet. It is the Bloomberg Billionaire Index which keeps the account, which photographed last night the excess: 200.3 billion dollars in personal wealth for the boss of Amazon, 197.7 for that of a record which he has held since fall 2021 – it was above all the drop in the value of Tesla shares in recent months, which lost another hefty 7.2% on the stock market yesterday. Amazon, on the other hand, is on the rise: the value of its shares has more than doubled since the end of 2022 and is close to breaking all records. To the satisfaction of Bezos, and his portfolio: in addition to running the company, he is also its largest shareholder, with a 9% stake. Musk, however, still reports Bloomberg, is feeling the blow from Tesla's decline and could soon see its second position also affected, if a Delaware judge's decision to “crumble” his record compensation for running the $55 billion automaker becomes effective, what an investor prosecuted for extortion. Hot on Musk's heels is actually the third wheel in the all-American challenge with Bezos: the owner of French luxury giant LVMH, Bernard Arnault. Current estimated assets: $197.5 billion.
