2024 Olympics, Tamberi is in hospital, risk of withdrawal: “Probable kidney stone, I will do everything to be there”

As Italy's seventh gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics is celebrated thanks to the historic victory of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the women's doubles, immediately after Gregorio Paltrinieri's silver in the 1,500m freestyle, the Azzurri are holding their breath for one of their most anticipated champions. Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist in the high jump Gianmarco Tamberi, already forced to stop a few weeks ago due to a hamstring problem, has ended up in hospital due to a health problem. “This can't be true. Yesterday, 2 hours after writing “I deserve it” on social media, I felt a stabbing pain in my side. First aid, scan, ultrasound, blood tests. Probably a kidney stone,” the Italian climber wrote on social media, “now I find myself, 3 days before the race for which I sacrificed everything, lying in bed, helpless, with a fever of 38.8.” And he adds: “I should have left today for Paris and started my journey towards this great dream but I was advised to postpone the flight until tomorrow, in the hope that with a little rest this nightmare will end. All I can do is wait and pray… I don't deserve all this, I did everything for these Olympics, everything. I really don't deserve it. One thing is for sure, I don't know how I'll get there, but I'll be there on this platform and I'll give it my all until the last jump, whatever my condition. I swear to you, but even before that I swear to myself.
