Emma Maria Mazzenga set another world record in her age category this month by running the 200 meters outdoors in 51.47 seconds.
Born on August 1, 1933, Mazzenga currently holds five world records, nine European records and 28 best Italian performances in various Master Sprint categories.
“I'm very happy and satisfied, and also a little surprised because I didn't expect to go so fast,” Mazzenga said modestly after her record-breaking run on May 5 when she broke the previous record of 53.35 seconds set. by the Japanese Emiko Saito in 2022.
Like any athlete, Mazzenga follows specific rituals for his races: he runs strictly without socks and never wears the same shoes in training.
His running career as a Masters athlete began at the age of 53.
Upcoming commitments include the Italian championships which begin in June and an eye on the world championships in Sweden next year.
