The mayor of Bari Decaro against Piantedosi: “If there is suspicion about the municipality, I will give up the escort”

“If there is even a single suspicion of criminal infiltration in the municipality of Bari, I will give up the escort. I have been under surveillance for nine years, I am returning to life. I cannot be an anti-mafia mayor and have the access commission in common.” The mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro thus responds to the initiative of the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi to appoint an access commission aimed at verifying a hypothesis of dissolution of the municipality of Bari. It is a ministerial body that will have the task of verifying allegations of mafia infiltration in the municipal council of the city of Puglia and in other municipal companies. The decision comes after the arrest of 130 people as part of an investigation carried out by the Antimafia of Bari into an alleged link with the mafia and politics, with the possibility of an exchange of votes, during the 2019 municipal elections. Already last night, the first citizen spoke on social networks, calling it a “very serious act”. And he is now returning to the subject, while the majority and the center-right are trying to calm the political controversy by talking about ” due act”. His voice breaking with tears, Decaro explains that he “took the territory” from the crime. He recounts the episodes where he accompanied ordinary people to denounce the clans and recalls the trials in which the municipality became a civil party, notably against the members of the Parisi clan: “The mafia exists in Bari, there are 14 clans, but you must look them in the face, you must challenge them, you do not have to turn away. »And then he turns to the Meloni government. “Nothing surprises me more,” declared the mayor, “like Savastano Gomorrah some of them wrote: let's take back the city. But the city belongs to the inhabitants of Bari, it does not belong to anyone, what do you want to take back?” “access to which we will give all support. Bari is a city that resists organized crime. We must be proud of the good people of Bari who are much more than criminals.” The President of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano made him feel his closeness, speaking at the inauguration of the Mam (Mediterranean spatial pairing) in Grottaglie: “Now Mayor Decaro is in danger. If anyone gives him the impression that the Minister of the Interior, instead of defending him for his anti-mafia activities, investigate him because he fears that there is something wrong in what he did, he will be weakened. The mafiosi understand things very quickly.”
