the era of Suning and Zang, the Nerazzurri in the hands of the American fund Oaktree, ends

It's now official: Inter are moving from the Suning group to Oaktree. The American fund announced this in a note. “Since May 22, 2024, the funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, LP have owned FC Internazionale Milano – we read in the press release – This follows the non-repayment of the three-year loan granted by Oaktree to the holding companies of the 'Inter, which expired on May 21, 2024. with a total balance of approximately 395 million euros.

“In May 2021, with Inter on course to record record financial losses for the 2020/2021 financial year, Oaktree provided Inter's holding companies with the resources needed to stabilize the Club's financial situation and continue to operate, also guaranteeing the payment of players and employees.

In the three years since Oaktree's emergency operation, Inter have won their eighth and ninth Italian Cup, won their sixth, seventh and eighth Super Cup, won their 20th Scudetto and their historic second star, in addition to having reached the Champions League final for the first time since 2010 – recalls the fund – Oaktree is committed to achieving the best result for the long-term prosperity of Inter, with a primary focus on the operational and financial stability of the Club and its stakeholders.

Oaktree has great respect for the history of Inter, the passion of the players, the loyalty of Inter supporters; he also has great regard for the important role of the Club towards the city of Milan, Italy and the global sporting community. Oaktree intends to work closely with Inter's current management team, partners, the league and the sport's governing bodies to ensure the club is positioned for success on and off the pitch, focusing on strong management and governance with a vision of sustainable and successful growth.

The Board of Directors will naturally be abolished, in the transitional phase which will lead to the election of the new Board of Directors and the new president, all delegations will be attributed to Marotta. Who, at this point, is understandably considered the club's strongman, even by Oaktree himself.
