Tensile moments at the entrance to the G7 media center in Bari, where an Extinction Rebellion activist apparently fainted during police intervention. The activist demonstrated with others in front of the entrance to Fiere dal Levante, the place dedicated to journalists after the Borgo Egnazia summit. The environmental organization accused the police of having used force on their activist, who then lost consciousness: “They were chaining themselves to a tie – explained to Ansa a representative of Er, Pietro Laporta – the police intervened, an officer pulled on the chain, squeezing his neck as he sat. At that point, according to Extinction Rebellion, the activist “became trapped and lost consciousness.”

Version from the Police Headquarters: “No one caught him”

A version clearly denied by the Bari police headquarters, according to which the activist, during the demonstration, “tried to chain himself to the doors and, while the security agents tried to prevent him, he declared that 118. he felt unwell and was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he is currently being checked. Nobody held him.” Bari police headquarters reaffirmed that the activist had not fainted. Officers are acquiring images from various security cameras located in the area to piece together what happened.
