Striano's “diary” and his desire to open the “wormhole” of the files, the brilliance of the financier: “I did my job, I'm going to speak to the judge”

It would be the financier Pasquale Striano himself who wanted to discover the “worm pit” denounced by the Perugia prosecutor Raffaele Cantore. Why he did this remains to be understood. As Giovanni Bianconi recounts in an article in Corriere della Sera, two months before the start of the searches in the phones and computers used by the financier, on March 10, 2023, the case in the hands of the Rome prosecutor's office was about to be resolved. ending in substantial silence. After the complaint of the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, of October 31, 2022 for the newspaper articles Tomorrow, with details of his assets, the Rome prosecutor's office identified in three weeks who had accessed the Revenue Agency database. Roman investigators asked DNA prosecutor Antonio Laudati for information about Striano, and within a month the investigation was completed. Striano is about to receive notice of the conclusion of the investigations, which will be followed by the request for indictments. But first, the prosecution decides to summon the suspect to hear his version of the facts.

The turning point came when in January 2023, Striano did not choose the seemingly shortest path. The financier could have exercised his right not to respond. At most he was ready to give indications on questions related to research on Minister Crosetto. And probably he hypothesizes Mail, he would have faced an inevitable indictment and possible conviction. There certainly wouldn't have been the case that has been happening for days now. Striano speaks on the contrary, responds to investigators and reveals that for years he has been carrying out “large-scale” investigations on the orders of the prosecutor in charge of his office, according to custom, in search of suspicious transaction reports (SOS ). It is on this occasion that Striano delivers a sort of “journal”, in which all his accesses to the different databases are listed.

After prosecutors in Rome asked Laudati for clarification, the case became what we know today, with the file transferred from Rome to Perugia. After hearing from Cantone, Laudati denied Striano's version, even though it later emerged that certain searches without apparent justification had been carried out with the complicity of the magistrate. Striano was summoned to Perugia on February 28 to be questioned again, but this time he did not appear pending the conclusion of the investigation. To the editorial office of the newspaper, the financier would have sent a message which seems to clarify what his intentions are and to what extent the theory of the instigators behind his research is beginning to shake: “I will answer before a judge, then you” I will see what will happen. pass. I did my job with dignity and absolute professionalism and with my methods, not those of bureaucrats.”
