Sconessi Day, world S-connection day

Consider the impact of new technologies on health, including raising awareness against nomophobia, or the uncontrolled fear of remaining disconnected from the Internet, and promoting correct use of electronic devicesespecially among the youngest.

These are the objectives of World S-Connection Daywhich invites you to turn off your cell phone at dinner time (as indicated on the initiative's website) where you find yourself at the table with your loved ones. From there was born a LaFourchette investigation.

The mobile phone at the table: LaFourchette survey

On the occasion of Sconnessi Day, the leading restaurant reservation platform surveyed the use of smartphones at the table and found that for 39% of respondents, having a cell phone in hand in a restaurant is a habit.

According to the data collected, more than half of those surveyed (54%) say they distract themselves with their smartphone mainly by making calls (23%), consulting social networks (17%) and chatting (14%).

There are also those who, busy with their daily commitments, cannot disconnect and end up checking their emails (6%). And the trend of photographing food is still very widespread, a practice common to 29% of those surveyed, who do not give up sharing them online.

40% of users surveyed admit to falling into temptation out of habit, and 18.4% admit that they immediately give in to the vice as soon as there is a less engaging or inactive moment at the table.

But how do the other guests react to this constant distraction? Against 24% who now say they no longer notice it, a large majority (70%) do not approve of those who are more busy checking their phone than interacting with the people present: 60% say they feel annoyed and 10% embarrassed .

Not just the pleasure of conviviality: when you use your smartphone at the table, you lose the taste of the food itself, as scientific studies show.

Rediscover the taste for conversation

The Fork survey was the first step to promote an ad hoc initiative aimed at raising awareness of the importance of dialogue and sociality between people around the table.

It's called Rediscover the taste for conversation and implies 15 restaurants in the cities of Milan, Rome and Naples, which, on February 22, will invite customers who reserve a table to put away your phones in dedicated boxes for the duration of the meal.
