The situation in Brazil is particularly worrying since a new wave of suffocating heat is hitting the country. And, according to forecasts by meteorologists, the warm weather is expected to continue at least until Wednesday, the day when autumn begins in the southern hemisphere. In the west of the country, temperatures were very high this weekend.
Extreme rains in the South
In Sao Paulo, one of the most important cities in the country, the hottest day of the year was recorded on Saturday. Ipanema and Copacabana, Rio's iconic beaches, were filled with people, as were the city's large parks. On the contrary, extreme precipitation continues unabated in the south of the country. They are expected to continue in the coming days: “This week there will be a high risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms in south-central Brazil,” announced the meteorological information agency MetSul. “The most worrying system is a very intense cold front that will arrive with torrential rain and possible storms,” he added. According to what has been reported in recent months by the European Earth observation program Copernicus on climate change, this is the hottest year on record since 1850, that is to say the date from which reliable scientific measurements are considered to exist.
