Naples, the 17-year-old who killed Giovanbattista Cutolo was sentenced to 20 years in prison

The 17-year-old man who fatally shot 24-year-old musician Giovanbattista Cutolo in Naples on August 31 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. The judge at the Naples Juvenile Court decided so, accepting the prosecutor's request. The 17-year-old's lawyer had instead requested probation for his client. Also present in the courtroom was Giogiò's mother, Daniela Di Maggio, who, before entering the juvenile court, shouted into a megaphone, surrounded by dozens of people: “We want justice, if it doesn't happen, we will have a civil revolution.” The minor, who chose the abbreviated procedure, confessed to shooting that evening in Piazza Municipio, but said he did not do it with the intention of killing. “More than an abbreviated procedure. They killed my son as if he were the worst of the Camorra”, the musician's mother shouted again, while other friends of the boy hung a large banner at the entrance to the court with the words “We want justice for Giogiò”. “I hope for an exemplary sentence, I have confidence in the judge”, declared from the megaphone the father of the child, Franco Cutolo, according to which “serious interventions by the government in general on minors are necessary, starting with too many weapons in their hands.”
