“My stalker is free and the GPS has sounded 40 times: the police tell me he is 30 meters away and I no longer live”

Isella Marzocchi, 52, from Bologna, has been the victim of a stalker for over a year. The person, much younger than her, met her once for coffee. Since then, he has become obsessive. He started bombarding her with messages and calls. Marzocchi, who has a husband and two children aged 9 and 12, reported this. He was sentenced to two years in prison for criminal harassment. He was also given an electronic bracelet as a precaution. But, Isella explains today to Andrea Pasqualetto in Corriere della Sera, it did not stop there: “He was never seen at the trial. I imagine he is free since I still have this device connected to his electronic bracelet and to the police station.”

Not even a day in prison

“I'm told he won't serve a day in prison, so I keep walking around with the spray and looking around. For eight months, I have been linked to the movements of this man whom I had never seen before. Infinite anguish. Even last Friday, while I was at the police station, the alarm on my GPS went off, the police called me, whom I thank again for their work,” he says. She says she met him at the supermarket checkout: he made a joke about her shopping then started stalking her: “At the shopping center, he wouldn't let me go. Then he asked me to have a coffee and I told him to 'okay, thinking of keeping him away from me.' The GPS, explains Isella, “is a kind of cell phone, a little thicker, that rings every time it comes within 400 meters of me. The prohibition symbol appears with a stylized number which indicates to me “you are in a risk zone”. Then the police call me and ask me if everything is okay.”

Panic attacks

Isella explains that when the SOS rings, she panics: “Especially if I'm on the street or on public transport. Which I tend not to take anymore. » This has happened at least forty times since July. “Also because he lives in my neighborhood,” he explains. For this reason, she changed her usual home-work routes, “her schedules, for a period I stayed at home. At first, I had colleagues guarding me when I arrived and when I left, because this person had started hanging out in the bar across the street from the office. He didn't have much trouble following me even when I was in company. » To contact her, “he ended up using the cell phones of the merchants he asked to call.”

The Pakistani

One day, she says, she found herself talking on the phone with a Pakistani businessman who called back because he saw the call on his cell: “The strangest situations have happened , with the police who called me: be careful, he is 30 meters away. , you see? In short, a nightmare.” According to Isella, there is “unequal treatment: he is free to move around, I am obliged to avoid certain places; he who cannot attend the trial, as he did, me who should have been there to testify…”. This is why at certain times he regrets having denounced him: “Because I have trouble seeing the end of this ugly story. I'm also thinking about changing cities…damn coffee.”
