The magistrate of the Tivoli court sentenced Mirko Campoli, former director of Catholic Action for Youth and former religion teacher accused of sexual violence against two boys, to nine years in prison. The story dates back to a few years ago, when the victims were 12 and 16 years old. The first case concerns a boy entrusted by his parents to Campoli, who allegedly mistreated him for four years, only stopping at the start of the confinement due to the Covid pandemic. The violence took place in Tivoli, Guidoni and other centers “with a frequency of at least once a month”. Campoli also allegedly abused the boy during a trip to Gardaland. In total, 50 cases of violence were suffered. The second case concerns a boy who was 16 years old at the time of the incident, during a school camp in Loreto, in the province of Loreto. At that time, Campoli taught religion and was deputy director of the Fermi Technical Institute in Tivoli. He served as diocesan president of Catholic Action and held other positions within the diocese. At the time, he justified his actions with problems related to depression.

A second investigation against Campoli was later closed, also for pedophilia. As Repubblica reports, according to the prosecutor's office, which is preparing the indictment request, Campoli also abused the first victim's little brother, another minor, a 12-year-old boy and another 10-year-old boy. years old, who was invited to a host family in Rome, where children who were victims of abuse were taken in. In all cases, Campoli is accused of abusing the children while they were asleep or half asleep.
