But the leadership of the alliance will not be chosen this way: “We first cultivate a discussion that leads to a well-structured project, then we choose the candidate best suited to implement it.” And to the idea that the PD and the M5S united can defeat the center-right, the former People's Advocate responds: “I remember that before and during the 2022 campaign, within the PD, there were those who were working to eliminate the M5S. Let's start there, but we need to consolidate the method and build a credible alternative.” In which, however, it is unlikely that there will be room for Renzi and Calenda, despite the quasi-overtures of the leader of Action : “A fair field cannot be undermined by personalism, tactics and powers of prohibition and conditioning. In the new course of the M5S, we work with great commitment in the territories to offer the country an adequate ruling class , motivated, independent of clientelist practices and who wants to distinguish himself by his skills, his seriousness and his capacity.

Calenda and the Democratic Party

But if Calenda calls, Conte adds, “my number is always the same. But the issue is not to talk to each other on the phone, it is to find sharing on projects that interest us.” And with the Democratic Party, there is no competition: “The objective is not “It's not about having one more vote than the Democratic Party, it's about doing good politics. In addition to our result, we must take into account the Todde list and the civic lists that we sponsored.”
