Agcom sanctions Rai for John Travolta's sneakers in Sanremo: “It was hidden advertising”

Agcom accepted the appeal presented by Codacons after the scene where the Hollywood actor was the protagonist doing the qua qua qua dance with Amadeus and Fiorello. “The Commission for Services and Products Agcom has approved a fine of 206,580.00 euros, equal to twenty times the legal minimum, against Rai for violating the provisions relating to the correct declaration of advertising messages during the 74th edition of the Sanremo Italian Song Festival,” the Authority informs. During Travolta's brief appearance on the second evening of Sanremo 2024, the actor's hospitality was widely criticized, both for the duration and for what he was asked to do, given what was thought to be a significant remuneration. But the next day the controversy shifted to the shots that immortalized them. sneakers white at the actor's feet, with the logo unmasked and with the company celebrating the sales boom. “The presentation of the product took place during the main program of Rai television in terms of audience and during the performance of an internationally renowned guest, with notable adverse effects to the detriment of viewers”, writes Agcom, “in determining the sanction, the Authority took into account the reiteration of the behavior of Rai, already sanctioned for episodes of hidden advertising during the last edition of the Sanremo Festival”.
