A young French mother was narrowly saved in Venice last Thursday September 26 around 3:30 p.m., near the Giudecca, after falling into the water while trying to stop her daughter who was dangerously approaching the shore. Unfortunately, the woman slipped and was swallowed up by the waters of the canal, never returning to the surface. But Fabio Bognolo, owner of the Ae Botti pizzeria in Palanca, where the woman was having lunch with her family, stepped in to save the situation. Witnessing the scene, Bognolo did not hesitate to dive into the water to save her. “I was there and saw the scene and when she fell I ran, but she was already underwater. The children were screaming, so I jumped,” the man told daily Il Gazzettino. “I gave myself a push, but it was too heavy and he wouldn't let go of the bag, so I hung on to the bag. 'peoci' and I made him ride, I even injured my hand”, he concluded. Bognolo's gesture recalls, among others, that of his wife, Valentina Comin, who, in February, had saved a dog that had fallen into the lagoon.
