The London Clinic, the elite hospital where Kate Middleton underwent abdominal surgery in January, has confirmed the attempted intrusion into the Princess of Wales' electronic medical records. An attempt, according to the media (the first to announce the news was the Mirror, editor's note), carried out by at least one unauthorized employee. A memo from the clinic states that any breach of patient information will be investigated internally and, if necessary, disciplinary action will be taken. For the London Clinic, “there is no place” for those who violate patient trust. This structure was often used by royalty precisely to ensure confidentiality. When Kate had surgery, the main door of the facility was guarded day and night by two officers, but despite the impressive security measures, at least one employee attempted to access the princess's electronic file. “We firmly believe that all of our patients, regardless of their status, have the right to privacy and confidentiality regarding medical information,” the clinic said. The UK's independent Data Protection Authority (ICO) has opened an administrative investigation.
