The riots took place around 8 p.m. at the Barberini station, in the center of the capital. According to what has been reconstructed by Corriere della Serait all started when a foreign tourist was the victim of an attempted robbery. The man allegedly rebelled, but his accomplices arrived to support the pickpocket, who allegedly hit the unfortunate man, perhaps even spraying him with pepper spray. Shortly after, a fight broke out between the gang that had just acted and another rival group of pickpockets. All South Americans, the testimonies are consistent. According to Ansa, in Barberini, people got on a subway train and that's when the maxi-riss broke out, involving about twenty people. Several passengers then reported having their money, wallets or mobile phones stolen. What is certain is that the police had to intervene in force to suppress the riots, in collaboration with security guards and an ambulance. Atac was forced to close the entire station for about 40 minutes, necessary to restore order and calm. There do not appear to have been any serious injuries, but on Saturday night there was yet another episode of vandalism in the tunnels of the Rome metro. Surveillance footage from the Barberini station is now being used to find those responsible for the massive brawl.
