Regional elections in Sardinia, Soru's bad choice. The speech of defeat: “We will not exceed the 10% threshold” – Video

It was not an easy campaign for Renato Soru. Break with the Democratic Party and run alone in the regional elections against his daughter Camilla, candidate for the Regional Council with the Democrats. But he, founder of Tiscali, former president of the Sardinia Region from 2004 to 2009, former secretary of the Sardinian Democratic Party and former MEP, brought together different realities and made a colorful coalition: separatists, Communist Rifondazione, Action and +Europa . . And he presented himself, he bet, but unfortunately he will not reach the 10 percent which allows, on the basis of Sardinian electoral law, to sit on the council. With 1,500 seats counted, it is stuck at 8.5 percent. So, as he did in the fiery speech closing the electoral campaign, he decided to admit defeat.

“I hope to have left some signs for the future”

“It is clear that we will not exceed the 10% threshold,” he declared upon his arrival in the evening at the headquarters of the electoral commission in Cagliari. And to the applause of the activists who welcomed him, he thanked him: “I am very proud of what we have done in recent months, it has been a magnificent electoral campaign. A deep disappointment, because all the data we had, both from surveys and from perceptions, obviously false, allowed us to foresee a different result. But that's it, it's the true voice of Sardinia and so I take note of it.” Renato Soru's dream will continue. “I hope to have left signs for the future,” he assures , perhaps hinting at a possible run in the next municipal elections in Cagliari. He called Alessandra Todde, candidate of the large Pd and M5S camp, who is ahead of the center-right candidate Truzzu. The failure of the alliance, ” third wheel” of the electoral campaign. But even there, an error of underestimation paid dearly.
