Pisa, the mother of a student (minor) beaten with a baton, speaks: “Police, how do you look your children in the face?”

Sara Costanzo, mother of one of the students beaten by the police during the pro-Palestinian demonstration yesterday February 23 which called for a “ceasefire” in Gaza, is furious. “My daughter was discharged from the Lotti hospital in Pontedera. My daughter, a minor, underwent examinations to detect bruises due to the blows she received this morning,” the woman begins to say in a message on social networks. First, she “fell to the ground because of the blows she received”, then – she continues – she was “hit by a police officer who aimed his right leg with his baton”. Trapped in the chaos of the moment, the young girl did not was able to defend herself in any way: she tried in vain to ask the police officer to stop. But the blows did not stop. On her, as on many other students, of whom the images circulating serve as of witnesses. The girl is now better and will return to school on Monday. “With her head held high”, wishes to emphasize the mother, who remains only “disgust and anger” for what happened. To those responsible violence, he launches an appeal: “You police officers, with what eyes do you look your children in the face this evening?”, urges the woman. “I am close to the parents of our other students, who are beaten and frightened. It moves me so much, all of this. I'm not afraid of evil. This disgusts me. Like cowardice,” concludes Costanzo.

“Unbelievable violence”

“Unprecedented violence, without the possibility of dialogue.” This is how a dozen professors from the Russoli art school in Pisa described the accusations made by the police against the young demonstrators of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Clashes of the same caliber also took place during demonstrations in Florence. Last night, Tuscan citizens wanted to give a unanimous response by taking to the streets in solidarity with the attacked demonstrators. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella has also spoken out on the issue in recent hours, condemning what happened. Bluntly, he said: “With children, batons express failure. » And he recalled that “the authority of the police is not measured by batons but by the capacity to ensure security while protecting, at the same time, the freedom to publicly express one's opinions”.
